✰☪ Finding Balance in the Deep End ☪✰
...🟄⚝⍣My Second Week as a Senior Student⍣⚝🟄...
Week 2 of senior year just ended, and it felt like diving headfirst into the deep end of a pool—cold, shocking, but thrilling all the same. The warmth of the first week’s excitement slowly faded, replaced by the cool embrace of routine. It was like finding your rhythm after a dance, where each step becomes more familiar, more natural.
For me, the
highlight of this week wasn’t just about surviving the workload; it was about
finding my balance, like walking a tightrope, holding onto something steady.
And that something steady was my planner—the small, leather-bound book that
became my compass in the chaos.
Every morning at
6:30 AM, I would wake up to the sound of my alarm, the sun just beginning to
paint the sky with hues of pink and orange. My planner was always the first
thing I reached for, its pages filled with my day’s map. Just like last week, I
started my day by helping with chores, each task a small way of giving back to
my parents, who were the pillars holding up my world. After that, reality hit
like a splash of cold water that I needed to dive into my studies, not just for
myself but for them, my family, who were the wind beneath my wings.
But Monday was the real plunge. As soon as the week started, the weight of performance tasks and activities fell on us like a wave crashing onto the shore. In HUMSS 1 (Creative Writing), we were given the task of teaching our classmates about diction and sample works about local and foreign writers, like guiding them through a garden of words, showing them the beauty in each petal and thorn. In PR 2, we had to analyze our pretest results, digging deep to understand why some answers were correct while others just didn’t seem to fit. For 21st Century Literature, we had to create a chant, something as unique as a fingerprint, inspired by a famous writer assigned to each group. My group had the task of bringing our work to life by the end of the week. After school on Monday, I opened my planner, and its pages seemed to whisper encouragement as I got to work on our PowerPoint presentation for HUMSS 1. I used an online tool the “Teacher Bot” to dig up the lesson assigned to us, then crafted a short quiz like a sculptor chiseling away to reveal the form within. Once the presentation was ready, I assigned each of my groupmates for their role, like pieces in a puzzle, each one essential to the final picture. We planned out the flow of our presentation, remembering our adviser’s advice to keep it creative since it would be judged as a performance task. On the morning of our presentation, we practiced, each repetition smoothing out the rough edges until it felt like second nature.
When the time
came to present, we started with a lively "BIDA-BIDA" intro, setting
the tone like the opening notes of a song. Ms. Sabusay’s angelic voice filled
the room during the icebreaker, not with music, but with a melody all her own.
We wove a short role play into the presentation, like threads in a tapestry,
showing the different types of diction. Ms. Loyola’s poetry reading was the
final stroke, a beautiful end that left the room in thoughtful silence. I was
beyond proud of how our presentation turned out. Our classmates were engaged,
their eyes bright with interest as they enjoyed the cookies we handed out as
prizes. But more importantly, they learned something new, something valuable,
and that made all the effort worth it.
The planner,
which guided me through this whirlwind of a week, became a symbol of stability
and preparation. As I flipped through its pages at the end of each day, I
realized that it wasn’t just a tool, it was a reflection of my efforts, my
determination to stay on top of things even when the water got deep.
This week taught me the power of planning, the strength that comes from knowing you have a path to follow. It also showed me that teamwork is like a lifeboat in rough seas—together, we could navigate the storm and reach the shore. Most importantly, I learned that when you dive into the deep end, it’s not about how strong the waves are, but how well you swim. And with the planner in my hand, I felt ready to face whatever the next week would bring, knowing that with the support of my groupmates and the guidance of our teachers, we could tackle any challenge that came our way.
Bible Verse for the Week
“Whatever
you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human
masters.” - Colossians 3:23 (NIV)
This verse reminds me that in everything I do—whether it’s studying, helping my parents, or working on group projects—I should give my best effort, knowing that it’s not just for others but also for God. It’s a reminder to stay committed and dedicated, trusting that our hard work will be rewarded in ways we might not even see yet.
